What's changing for your profession

If you are an accounting or stock clerk, you are probably already watching systems reconcile bank statements, extract data from invoices and track warehouse stock without your input. That used to be the bulk of your day — and that is exactly where AI is moving fastest. Less and less often will you type in records line by line; more and more often you will check what the system has decided and why. Your work is shifting from mechanical entry towards control, explanation and accountability. Someone has to catch a wrong categorisation before it reaches the annual report, explain to a manager why a number looks atypical, coordinate a physical stock count, speak with a supplier about a discrepancy and keep documents according to the law. That is judgment and discipline work the machine cannot fully take on. Invest in accounting and tax fundamentals, in data analysis with Excel or SQL, in understanding internal controls and in confident use of the ERP systems your company runs. If you become the person who explains the numbers, not just types them, you will stay needed.
