What's changing for your profession

Your cab is far more digital than it was a decade ago. Navigation predicts congestion, driver-assistance systems warn about lane departure and pedal pressure, and dispatchers see the truck, bus or locomotive in real time. That is artificial intelligence in its purest form and it has taken some routine load off your shoulders — less manual logging, less time wasted on the wrong route, faster reaction to an incident. Fully autonomous delivery, however, remains far from Bulgarian roads and yards. Regulation, insurance, unpredictable behavior of other traffic and diverse conditions make a complete removal of the driver economically impossible for a long time ahead. Responsibility for the cargo, the passengers and the vehicle stays with you, and customers want a person they can talk to when something goes wrong. Two directions for development are clear. First, broaden your licenses and certificates — ADR, heavy-duty combinations, specialized transport — because they carry a higher hourly rate. Second, learn to use telematics and reporting apps as an ally rather than a watchdog. The driver who shows clean data and good communication keeps the most valuable orders and employers in the sector today.
